Udawatta Kele Sanctuary

In 1856 Udawattakele or “Udawasalawatte” was declared as a Protected Forest and declared as a Sanctuary in 1938. It is 257 acres in extent and the approach road is from the town near the Municipal Council Office of Kandy. There are 33 different species of Trees, 23 species of birds (07 endemic), 06 Mammals (01 endemic), The Garrison Cemetery of Kandy is within the Sanctuary behind the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, where 163 graves of British Nationals are found. The entrance fee is Rs. 250/- per person.
